Preparing your South Florida home for hurricane season is essential for safety and savings. Whether you’re in Broward, Palm Beach, or Miami-Dade County, these three crucial steps will help you protect your property, secure the right insurance, and document your home before a storm hits.
1. Update Reports
4-point and wind mitigation reports are useful in shopping for best available rates and appropriate insurance coverages. Reports should be updated every couple of years and after improving key systems: HVAC, Roof, Etc.
2. Shop Coverage
Several carriers just re-entered the Florida insurance market which means there are opportunities for significant savings. I always recommend shopping annually, but now more than ever!
3. Keep Records
Technology has made it easier to document property condition. Be sure to capture 6 pictures per room — one from each corner, floor and ceiling. Save these photos with a digital copy of your policy.
